Brauer group of p-adic curves

Prof. Dr. Eduardo Tengan (MTM-UFSC)

Resumo: Let K be a field.  By a Kdivision algebra, D, we mean an associative (but not necessarily commutative) finite dimensional K-algebra D whose center is precisely K, and such that every non-zero element has multiplicative inverse.  The set of isomorphism classes of K-division algebras forms a group, the so-called Brauer group of K.  The Brauer group is one of the most important arithmetic invariants of a field, and plays an important role in many distinct areas of Mathematics, such as Number Theory and Algebraic Geometry.  Brauer groups of fields can be generalized to Brauer groups of varieties (or more generally schemes).  In this talk we present an overview of some of the research in the past 20 years or so in the study of Brauer groups of curves over the field of p-adic numbers.
